NO THIS AND THAT
No This and That post today. It has been a ROUGH week so gonna skip it today. HOWEVER, here’s a short list of what I’ve been reading and watching this week:
What I’ve been reading:
Gantz Omnibus 2 - Okay I am LOCKED IN to this series now. From what I’ve gathered so far, certain people are sucked into a weird game at their time of death which seems to be run by a mysterious sphere called Gantz. The participants have to kill specific aliens using special guns and a super suit. The participants range from sweet to downright disgusting, but the main characters are Kei (a teen who just wants to get laid), Kishimoto (a pretty young woman whose body I’ve seen naked way too much) and Kato (a tall, handsome guy who acts as the leader). I am FULLY invested in this game because I want to know who’s running it and why.
Bitter Root Omnibus - This book is gigantic and also has a lot extra content between volumes so it’s gonna take a bit before I’m done. But it’s an amazing Black comic about the Sangerye family, a family that has been fighting the demons and monsters during the Harlem Renaissance, a time of immense Black creativity and also horrific racial violence, including the Tulsa Massacre of 1921. I love it and can’t wait for the next chapter in 2025.
Fiebre Tropical (written by Juliana Delgado Lopera) - This is my second Latin Heritage Month read. I’m going in blind on this one but I’ll definitely let you know what I think about it next Friday.
Gather Me: A Memoir in Praise of the Books That Saved Me (written by Glory Edim) - I am a stan of Glory and the work she’s been doing in the book space. She is the founder of “Well-Read Black Girl,” a book space that uplifts the voices of authors by “ reading and reflecting on the works of Black women.” Her memoir is releasing this month and I was fortunate to receive an advance copy from the publisher. I read Glory’s previous book, Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves, which I loved and look forward to reading about her love of books.
What I’m watching:
Agatha All Along - I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! To be honest, I was not familiar with Kathyrn Hahn until I watched Wandavision and she was amazing in that show. She’s even better in this spin-off, which also stars Joe Locke (from Heartstopper), THEE Patti Lupone (she will always be my Evita), Sasheer Zameda (looking damn good), Ali Ahn (who is badass) and Aubrey Plaza (need I say more?). The Mephisto speculation about the Teen is already starting, which I love and can’t wait to see dashed, as usual.
Rings of Power - I’m going to start the re-watch of season 1 before I move into season 2. I wanted to watch the show straight through and now I can. I’ve heard good things about season 2 and even if I hadn’t, I would watch the show anyway.
Heartstopper, Season 3 - I’ve already binged the entire thing! I didn’t know it was dropping yesterday and yes, I watched the entire season and cried. I love love love this show so much. I think British shows do such a better job of exploring sex and sexuality and mental health than American shows because we’re too prudish to really get down and dirty with the reality of it. Season 3 was no exception.
Industry, Season 3 - Finished this season and it was amazing! I just read that we’re definitely getting a season 4 and I’m ECSTATIC. Everyone seems to be going in a different direction but I just know we’re gonna get some more toxic behavior from Harper, Eric, Robert, Yas and Rishi (who is truly fucked, btw). Can’t wait!
See you next Friday and thanks for reading.
