Yes, I know. I’m late. Blame my grandson (please don’t) cuz he’s just so CUTE! Okay, here we go!
Last episode, Luffy and Usopp learned of Captain Kuro’s plans to murder Kaya and steal her inheritance. Usopp comes running back to the village, determined to warn his neighbors. But will they believe him this time? Because remember, Usopp loved playing tricks on them, pretending that pirates were coming to attack.
Usopp runs right past Nami, Zoro and the Usopp Pirates and heads straight for the village. Nami and Zoro wonder why Luffy isn’t with him, thinking maybe Usopp is still pissed about his father being ragged on. Zoro asks the kids how to get to the shore so he can find Luffy.
Usopp screams at the top of his lungs that pirates are coming and . . . no one comes out. Man, what did you expect! Those hardworking people are tired of your shit! When they do finally come out of their homes, it’s to beat Usopp senseless once and for all. One of the villagers tells Usopp that if he were as honest as Klahadore aka Captain Kuro, they would believe him. Usopp flashes back to something Kuro said when he was on the shore. Kuro knew that the villagers would never believe him, which is why he didn’t bother to stop him.
Back at Kaya’s mansion, she’s ordered a beautiful pair of sunglasses for Klahadore as an anniversary present. It’s been three years since he arrived, meaning this man has been playing the long game!
Back in the village, Usopp is having no luck convincing the villagers of the impending attack. He ends up having to run like hell because the villagers have had enough.
At the shore, Zoro, Nami and the Usopp Pirates are looking for Luffy. They spot him head first at the bottom, head buried in the sand. They believe the worst but then Zoro tells them all to be quiet. They hear snoring, and Zoro prods Luffy with his sword. Our boy wakes up, refreshed and ready for who knows what.
Back at the mansion, Usopp sneaks in to see Kaya, who looks cozy reading a book in her bed. It’s peaceful and quiet, with the birds chirping in the background. Usopp throws a stone at the window, but Kaya is absorbed in her book. He throws another one and she opens the window, happy to see her friend. Usopp tells Kaya to run for her life, and that Klahadore tricked her. Of course she doesn’t believe him cuz she’s a trusting thing (or a dodo).
Back at the shore, Luffy tells everyone Kuro’s plan. The Usopp Pirates run for the hills so they can organize. Luffy freaks out because he doesn’t want the meat guy to run away before they can stock up (I feel you, Luffy). Zoro tells him to stay focused so they can figure out a plan.
At the mansion, Usopp is doing his best to get Kaya to leave, but of course she won’t (I can’t stand her). He even tries to take her by force, which, not cool Usopp. She slaps the hell out of him, which stops him in his tracks. One of Kaya’s staff members runs outside and ends up shooting him! He’s hurt, but not so much he can’t run away. And because of what he did to Kaya, the villagers are now even more determined to beat his ass. Usopp has become public enemy number one, thanks to his constant shenanigans.
Usopp heads back to the shore with tears in his eyes. He comes up on Luffy and the gang and is in shock when he sees Luffy alive and well. The Usopp Pirates tell Usopp that they know about the Captain Kuro and his plan and are ready to help. They tell him to let the villagers know immediately. Usopp remembers that not one of the villagers believed him and he tells the kids that he made it all up cuz he was mad at Kuro. The kids seem to be okay with that but then read him for filth. The tell him they don’t respect him anymore because he lied about someone to hurt them. The kids leave Usopp in the dust and go home.
Later that night, Nami fixes up Usopp’s gunshot wound. Luffy asks why he lied about Kuro to the kids and Usopp basically said cuz he’s a liar. He feels responsible for his villagers not believing him about the attack and wants to face the pirates himself. He’d rather be a liar if it means saving his village. Nami, Luffy and Zoro tell him that they’ll help, not out of sympathy but because Usopp is an honorable guy.
Will Usopp be redeemed? Stay tuned for the next episode to find out.
