Third Shift Musings - One Piece Episode #6
The story of Chouchou, one loyal (and mean) ass dog.
I’m back, people! Yes, it’s been forever cuz LIFE. Thanks for sticking with me.
Okay so, last time, Buggy and his crew were blasted to high heaven (or hell) by a Buggy Ball, but since this is One Piece we’ll see if they’re dead or alive.
Zoro tries to move Luffy, who’s still locked in the cement cage. Zoro is in pain thanks to the stab wound Buggy gave him and shouldn’t be moving anything. Nami tells him that but does he listen? Of course not. Men.
Low and behold, Buggy is still alive! The state of his aliveness is up for debate, but dude is still breathing and plotting. He makes a deal with someone named Mohji the Beast Tamer, who, and I kid you not, walks around with a pet lion named Richie. Buggy wants Mohji to take Luffy out (good luck) but Mohji wants Zoro and his head.
Zoro manages to get Luffy someplace safe (I guess) when they notice a little white dog just sitting quietly. Now we all know, if a dog or a child appear out of nowhere and is sitting quietly, run for your lives. Again, this is One Piece so instead, they try to befriend the dog. Shorty tries to take Luffy’s face off! Nami returns with the key to the cage and hands it to Luffy once he pulls the dog off him. Before he can use it though, the dog SWALLOWS THE KEY! And with a smirk on it’s face at that! After the initial shock of what just happened, Luffy shakes the dog to get the key out, but a man appears who happens to be the mayor of the town. The mayor tells everyone the dog’s name is Chouchou and has been guarding his long-deceased owner’s pet shop. That’s sweet and all, but Luffy needs that key.
Mayor Boodle tries to get Zoro to see a doctor for his stab wound but since Zoro is a man, he declines and says he’ll sleep it off. Zoro passes out and doesn’t hear anything when all hell starts to break loose. Mohji and Richie make their way to the group and Mayor Boodle starts freaking out. Of course, Luffy starts with the insults but to everyone’s surprise, Chouchou comes at Mohji, who tosses the dog to the side. He wants Zoro and Zoro only, but Luffy ain’t no snitch. Mohji gets pissed and sics Richie on him. The lion smashes the cage and knocks Luffy into a building. Thinking he’s dead, Mohji sets Richie on Chouchou. But Chouchou ain’t no punk and comes at Richie. While all this is going on, we get a flashback of Chouchou and his owner and it’s sweet. You’ll have to watch it cuz it really is super sweet.
Richie and Chouchou go at it and the lion slaps the dog a final time and it looks like it’s curtain for the little guy. But nope, he gets back up and begins to howl because the pet store is in flames! Luffy sees this and the look on his face let me know that he was about to tear some shit up.
Mohji and Richie are casually walking through the town and Luffy intercepts them. Mohji is surprised to see him cuz he thought he was dead, but sets Richie on him anyway. Big mistake. Luffy uses his Devil Fruit powers and slams the lion into the pavement like he’s nothing. Mohji starts crying over his lion and asks Luffy how he did that. Luffy, looking like an anime villain, tells Mohji all about the Gum-Gum Fruit, which let’s him know that he’s about to get his ass handed to him. Luffy knocks Mohji’s soul out of his body and the animation went so hard I had to add it to this post. I need this on a t-shirt!
Back at the now burned up pet store, Chouchou is just staring at what used to be. Nami’s hatred for pirates resurfaces and when Luffy comes back from his fight, she threatens to kill him. Luffy just brushes her off though and makes his way to Chouchou. He give him the bag of dog food stolen by Mohji and the little dog goes on his merry way, bruised but still standing.
Mohji crawls back to Buggy to let him know about his beat down, and Buggy flips the fuck out. He tells his crew (how are they alive!?) to get all the Buggy Balls ready cuz he’s gonna blow up the whole town. Meanwhile, Mayor Boodle is tired of acting like a coward and decides to confront Buggy. Before he can do that though, one of the Buggy Balls crashes through his house, where Zoro has been sleeping this entire time. How that man survived the explosion I will never know, but he does. Mayor Boodle runs to find Buggy before he shoots off another Buggy Ball. When he arrives, Buggy uses his amputated arm to choke the mayor, which is creepy and cool at the same time (don’t judge me). Luffy, Nami and Zoro arrive before Buggy can make another move and that’s where this episode ends.
Tune in for Episode 7.
